With its origin in China, dragon boating is a sport that’s been around for more than 2,300 years. It has been adapted from its traditional beginnings into the sport it is today. Dragon Boating offers fun for all ages and fitness levels, while simultaneously offering the challenge of competition. A standard size dragon boat seats 20 paddlers in 10 rows with a drummer in the bow to motivate the team and keep the paddlers in sync. These 21 people all work in unison to propel this 42’ long “canoe” down the race course.
This Battle on the Brazos Dragon Boat Festival will take place on the river next to McLane Stadium Boat Docks and Touchdown Alley from 9am – 3pm. While teams are racing down the Brazos River, there will be food trucks and local artisan vendors set up on the plaza for that festival feel. Here is an exciting addition to an already GREAT day! Baylor University’s Meet the Bears will be taking place inside the stadium the morning of the race. That will bring an extra three to five thousand spectators and festival goers to the river. What a great opportunity for exposure!
All proceeds will benefit Enrich Seniors. Enrich Seniors is a non-profit organization compassionately dedicated to improving the lives of seniors in our community by helping maintain independence through life-changing services and impactful programs while also enriching their quality of life.
