Mickey Gilley: Live at the Waco Hippodrome
August 23 @ 7:00 pm - 8:15 pm$29 – $89
Mickey Gilley is an American country music singer and musician. Although he started out singing straight-up country and western material in the 1970s, he move towards a more pop-friendly sound in the 1980s, bringing him further success on not just the country charts, but the pop charts as well. Around the early seventies Gilley and Sherwood Cryer, an old friend of Gilley’s, opened up a club called Gilley’s in Pasadena, Texas, which seated 5,000. It was called the world’s largest honky-tonk. Gilley regularly performed here. In 1980, the club was chosen for a setting for the movie Urban Cowboy. This movie made Gilley’s a popular attraction for tourists. Among his biggest hits are “Room Full of Roses,” “Don’t the Girls All Get Prettier at Closing Time,” and the remake of the Soul hit “Stand by Me”. Gilley has charted 42 singles in the top 40 on the US Country chart.
