Epiphanies New Works Festival: “Near Nellie Bly & Yella Jack”
The Second Annual Epiphanies New Works Festival takes place at Cultivate 7Twelve.
Near Nellie Bly, A Staged Reading
Written by Mark Loewenstern, this play examines the undercover work of Nellie Bly by reimagining it through the eyes of someone who stayed with her in the asylum. Weaving together historical narrative and fantastical characters, this story is one you won’t soon forget.
Yella Jack, A Staged Reading
Written by Donna Latham, this play sheds light on life during a pandemic, but not perhaps the one you’re thinking. Set during the Yellow Fever plague in Memphis in the 1870s, the story is one of community in times of crisis. An example of science and faith holding hands, you will walk away considering the ways that history truly does repeat itself and how we may be able to learn from it.
