Cameron Park Zoo, and orangutan mother Mei, welcomed a baby girl on Saturday.  Mother and daughter will be off exhibit for a time while they bond. Mei, and the proud papa, KJ, are Bornean orangutans who reside at the zoo, along with Mukah, a Sumatran/Bornean hybrid.

The zoo plans to allow the public to choose from three Malaysian name options selected  for the infant orangutan by zoo staff.

The proposed names are:

Batari – meaning “goddess”

Lestari – meaning “eternal”

Cahaya – meaning “light or radiant”
