Homestead Labor Day Sorghum Festival

Begun in 1994, the Labor Day Festival features sustainability seminars and make-your-own activities, along with locally produced and organic food. Activities include horse-drawn hayrides to the Brazos River Valley overlook, outdoor barbecue, craft demonstrations, make-your-own activities, free sustainable living seminars, and live music.

Watch the entire process of making sweet sorghum syrup—from pressing the raw cane using a horse-powered mill to cooking the juice into a rich, golden brown syrup. Enjoy some samples of sorghum syrup on freshly baked cornbread made from stone-ground cornmeal!
