Show and Tell Antiques – More than an antiques store

Show and Tell Antiques, located at 1525 Morrow Ave in Waco, Texas, is more than an antiques store. It is located in the mansion once owned by Robert S. Lazenby, who was involved in the development of Dr Pepper. Dr Pepper is the world’s oldest soft drink, and was invented by Charles Alderton in 1885 at Morrison’s Old Corner Drug Store. Robert Lazenby was a young beverage chemist at the time, and was impressed with the new drink. In 1891, he joined up with Wade Morrison, the drugstore owner, to found a new company called the Artesian Mfg. & Bottling Company. This company later became the Dr Pepper Company.

Lazenby’s Victorian-style home, built in 1909, offers three floors filled with a wide variety of antiques, which include Victorian furniture and art glass, fine jewelry, and art pottery. The store is open Saturdays from 10am – 5pm and is well worth visiting, whether you enjoy antiques shopping, or historic homes. The owner, Tot Talbert, may be persuaded to give you a quick tour if you ask.

The home is located just down the street from Harp Design, made famous by Chip and Joanna Gaines’ hit TV show, “Fixer Upper.”

There were several features which stood out on our recent visit. Be sure to notice the rings at the curb out front where horses could be tied up. There is a stunning stained glass window on the landing between the first and second floor. Eleven fireplaces heated the home. Finally, as in Downton Abby, the servants used a narrow staircase and rooms separate from family.
