The “Sporting House Killing” Walk

From the Baptists of Baylor to the bordellos of the Reservation, Waco in the 1890’s brimmed with fascinating contradictions, colorful characters and no short supply of murder and mayhem.  Local author Jerry Powell transports us back to those times in his recently published book “The Sporting House Killing: A Gilded Age Thriller. Mr. Powell will be our guide for our September Waco Walk.  We will visit sites from the book and Mr. Powell will share tidbits and tales he learned while researching and writing about 1890’s Waco.  We will have a book signing after the walk at McCulloch House.
